Someone commented this week on how straight I stand.
Shoulders back, all of it. I said thank you and then thought about it for the rest of the day.
I spent years making myself smaller. Literally. I'm usually one of the taller people in any room and for a long time that felt like a problem to solve. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to stop apologizing for it. Now when someone makes a comment about my height my answer is always the same: Isn't it great? I love being tall. I mean it every time.
Last week, a woman at the grocery store asked me to grab something off the top shelf. Happy to help. She apologized for being short. I told her not to. I said, “we all have our superpowers.”
This chapter has a way of doing that. Turning the things you used to hunch away from into the things you stand up straight for.

TODAY’S PICKS
THE FEATURE
The Silent Cutoff.
One in four parents has been cut off by an adult child. This piece won't tell you who's right. It'll just make you think harder about what's actually going on.
THE REFLECTION
She Had Every Reason to Stop. She Still Needed Permission.
Her husband said yes. Her therapist said yes. Her body said yes. She still couldn't do it without justifying it to everyone, including herself. Someone has something to say about that.
What I'm Watching
My friend texted me about the season finale and I had to tell her to stop. We're not there yet. If you're also still catching up on this show, we can be behind together.
THE WILDCARD
You've Been Pressing That Button Your Whole Life.
Turns out, you were never in control. And the reason why is genuinely fascinating.
If you know someone who'd love this, send it to them.
That's the whole ask.
There's something in it for you too.
Details below.
My answer:
Checking my phone first thing in the morning. I know it sets the wrong tone. I've known for years. And yet, every single morning, there I am.
