I played mixed doubles in a padel tournament last night.

My husband and I were partners. We've been married 31 years.

Right before the first match, a woman on the next court asked us: you two have been married a long time, does that help out here? Do you just know what the other person's going to do?

I didn't get to answer. The match started.

Then in the middle of game two, we both went for the same ball. He stepped on my foot and I almost tumbled to the ground. We needed a five second pause because we were laughing so hard. Her question popped back into my head.

No. The work of getting to know someone never ends. The relationship dance keeps going.

THE WILDCARD

What The Light Knows.

Every April, in a different place, the same unexplainable light finds her. This year it was waiting in a field of 38 painted cars, arranged like Stonehenge.

If you know someone who'd love this, send it to them.

That's the whole ask.

There's something in it for you too.

Details below.

My answer:

My daughter got engaged recently. Somewhere between 'congratulations' and conversations about logistics, I skipped the real conversation about how thrilled I actually am.
