My daughter lives in New York City. There was a specific show she wanted to see but Broadway isn't her boyfriend's thing. No problem. She bought a solo ticket and enjoyed the show. I don't know why that stopped me in my tracks. But it did.
I want to be her when I grow up.

TODAY’S PICKS
THE FEATURE
Party of One
Solo dining used to carry a certain stigma. This piece makes the case that something shifted and a lot of women already know it.
THE REFLECTION
Outside Yourself.
At first I thought this was a stretch. But this researcher's case for why the cure for body dissatisfaction has nothing to do with your body? I couldn't shake it.
THE WILDCARD
What's in a Word?
A linguist digs into how one very specific word has been weaponized, reclaimed, and weaponized again. I learned something.
Shower Thoughts
Why is it that I can't find my keys, and the only reason I have an Apple Watch is to play that sound so I can find my phone. But when my college kid asks me where the cream cheese is in a grocery store three states away, I can tell them exactly which aisle?
My answer:
A hiking trip out west. But starting small sounds pretty good right now. A solo weekend in Upstate New York might just be my first step.
